SEO → Organic traffic
| You see | It means |
|---|---|
Clicks | Visits Google search sent you in the period. |
Impressions | Times one of your pages appeared in results, whether or not anyone clicked. |
CTR | Clicks divided by impressions. Low CTR on a high position usually means the title or description is not earning the click. |
Queries in top 10 | Searches your site averaged a top-10 place for, on the latest day read. These are Search Console’s searches, not the keywords you track — those are counted on SEO overview as Tracked keywords in top 10. |
Position | Where your page sat on average, for that query or page, over the week. |
Top queries is what people typed to reach you; Top pages is which of your pages they landed on. Both cover the same week, up to 25 rows each, ordered by clicks. A query with many impressions and few clicks is a title to rewrite; a page with many clicks is one to keep fresh.
Google finalises a day about three days after it ends, so the tables use the latest complete week, and the right-hand end of the chart may still move.
What Search Console says to do
| Section | What it finds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Pages losing clicks | Pages whose clicks over the last three complete months fell by a third or more against the three before (they need 30 clicks before to count). Above it, how many of your pages are growing, steady, declining, new or no longer clicked. | Refresh the page and check it is still the best answer on the results page — a page that ranked once is the cheapest traffic to win back. |
Ranking well, rarely clicked | Searches where a page sits on page one but is clicked at less than half the usual rate for its place (with 200 impressions or more). The usual rate is an average across the web — a yardstick, not a promise. | Rewrite the title and description: they are what searchers choose from. |
Pages competing for one search | Searches where two or more of your pages each take 15% or more of the impressions. | Merge them, or make one the answer and link to it from the other. |
Devices, Countries, Search appearance | Clicks split by device, by country and by how your results appeared (rich results, videos and so on). | — |
Searches and breakdowns cover the last four weeks Search Console has finalised; pages’ months go back sixteen months, Search Console’s whole memory, read on the first sync. The same findings appear on SEO overview under What to do next. All of it is free: it is read from your own Search Console.
Bing
With Bing Webmaster Tools connected (see Connections), the bottom of the screen shows Bing’s clicks and impressions for the last 90 days and its top searches and pages over the last four weeks, as Bing reports them.
