Vidrys for Shopify

Vidrys's app for Shopify makes the fixes you approve on your store — no tokens to copy. It has its own page inside your Shopify admin, where your store's fixes can be approved too, and a theme embed that adds what your theme lacks.

Installing and connecting

  1. Install the Vidrys SEO app on your store from the Shopify App Store. Shopify asks you to approve what it may change: your products, pages and blog posts, URL redirects, your theme's settings (to see whether its embed is on) and your files (for image alt text).

  2. Open it from Apps in your Shopify admin and press Connect to Vidrys. Vidrys opens in a new tab: sign in, check the project is the one for this store, and press Connect. The store's address must be the project's website.

  3. Back in Shopify, press Check again. If the app asks, press Turn it on to switch on its theme embed, then Save in the theme editor.

What it does

WhatHow
Search listingThe title and meta description of a product, collection, page or blog post — the fields Shopify's own Search engine listing form sets — written only while they still hold the value Vidrys read.
Hide from search enginesRemoved where a page in your sitemap is hidden; put back on rollback.
LinksPointed at the right address in a product's, collection's, page's or post's own text.
RedirectsShopify URL redirects for dead addresses, and pointed straight at the final page where one runs through a chain.
Image alt textOn a product's own images, and on the images in its description.
Theme embedOpen Graph tags, your organisation's structured data, Product structured data and breadcrumbs, added where your theme lacks them.
Pages you write in VidrysPublished to your store's blog, or saved as drafts.

Every change is one a person approved — in Vidrys, or on the app's page in Shopify — or set to apply without review. Each is checked on your live store afterwards and can be rolled back from Vidrys.

Inside your Shopify admin

The app's page shows which Vidrys project your store is connected to, whether the theme embed is on, and the fixes waiting for approval, each with what it changes and why. Approve and Dismiss work there as they do in Vidrys; the history and rollback are in Vidrys (Open Vidrys).

The theme embed

Shopify apps change a store's pages through a theme embed you switch on — Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → Vidrys SEO. It prints only what Vidrys wrote for your store, and an app can add tags but not take your theme's out, so Vidrys proposes each only where its audit found your theme lacking it. Until the embed is on, those fixes are refused with a link to switch it on; switching it off takes them off your store at once.

›What if I uninstall the app?

Its connection to Vidrys ends and its access to your store is forgotten. What it wrote into your products and pages — titles, descriptions, alt text, redirects — stays; what the theme embed added goes with it.

›Does it keep any of my customers' data?

No. It reads your products, pages and theme settings to make the fixes you approve, and nothing about your customers.

›I connected Shopify with a custom app's token before

That connection keeps working. The Vidrys app does more — the theme embed, approving in Shopify — with nothing to copy; connect it and the older connection can be removed.
